Dust-OFF: |
| Dusty roads can hit pocketbooks hard. Farmers pay the price because airborne dust can damage their crops. Livestock may produce less and suffer more disease when fed in a dusty environment. And dust carries harmful mites and pests through the air, while inhibiting the activity of beneficial insects.
Dust control is a challenge for loggers, miners, and construction workers as well. Their travel is slowed on dusty roads, and that means it takes longer to get the job done. The bottom line is decreased productivity.
The problem, then, is controlling dust. And controlling it as economically and efficiently as possible. The answer is
A study by the US Army Construction Engineers and the US Environmental Protection Agency concluded that dust control with magnesium chloride - the primary ingredient in Dust-Off - is most effective.1
Another report by the Iowa Department of Transportation and the Iowa Highway Research Board showed magnesium chloride to be three times more effective than bentonite treatments in suppressing dust.2
Many businesses already use Dust-Off as an effective solution to their dust control needs. Lousiana-Pacific Corp.'s Sierra Division, for example, uses Dust-Off on their forest roads. They moved 10 million board feet of timber (almost 2,000 truckloads) with just two Dust-Off applications. After that, 5-7 million board feet from another sale was hauled over the same road system. "For comparable dust control with water, we'd have to run a truck 16 hours a day," said L-P forester, John Marshal.Oil treatments weren't the answer either. Louisiana-Pacific found them to cost almost three times more than comparable applications of Dust-Off.3 Another plus with Dust-Off: traffic - even heavy equipment - can drive on the road immediatly after Dust-Off is applied. Other products, like petroleum-based suppressants or lignosulfonates, require curing time before vehicles can travel on them. For your convenience, Mendocino County Farm Supply, an authorized Dust-Off distributor can handle all phases of application. |
